Best Day Ever

Chapter 3    Best Day Ever

Part 1

Waking up next to Nicki brought SB to life. Feeling like they were already happily married. She beamed over at him, stretching.

“Good Morning!” she voiced cheerfully. The problems from the last couple of days were nowhere in thought. Serenity purified the morning air.

“Morning” He replied throwing the covers off of them, the thick tan sheets clung to the bottom of the bed. The glow of the AM sun pierced the window fully lighting the lush room. SB glanced at the green numbers on the little digital clock. It was 9:30. The perfect time to start their day together, a day he’d planned out himself. One that was special, one she’d never forget. Step one: breakfast.

“You wanna go get breakfast? Or sleep in for a while?” He asked willing to abide by her wants. She yawned, stretching again. He smiled at the little O shape her mouth made.

“I’ll run down and get us something. Get dressed when you’re ready to get up okay?”

“Okay” She just smiled. So he did have something planned for her. She lied in bed soaking up its rejuvenating powers until SB was out the door; excitedly skipping to the bathroom, switching on the hot water and cold water. She snatched her light pink toothbrush from the travel kit; letting her clothes drop to the floor, briskly brushing her teeth. She jumped in the shower once it warmed.

SB swayed back and forth eagerly in the elevator; Hyper to get back upstairs. He squeezed out of the elevator, as a group of people rushed in; paying no attention to the several times he was shoved. He waltzed into the small chandelier lit room taking in the smell of the food. Pancake batter drowned out the smell of the fresh strawberries, and blueberry jam. Syrup was the most dominant scent. Grabbing two of everything plates, cups, forks, knives and napkins he strolled around the buffet picking up random items. Carefully placing the full plates and glasses on a sparkling tray he jacked from an empty table. He ran by the front desk snatching the bouquet of roses he'd ordered the night before, racing back to the elevator. He was relieved when there was no one waiting to get on with him, there was no one to mess up his perfectly put together tray. Reaching their suite door he balanced the tray and bouquet on one hand, pulling the room key out of his pocket with his other. He sighed at the peaceful essence that met him at the threshold. Nicki wasn't in sight. He used this time to his advantage setting the table and placing the pink roses in a small vase he found in the kitchen, setting it right next to Nic's plate. He settled in his chair to wait. She poked her head around the wall to see SB at the table. He looked up laughing at her silly act. Approaching the table she smiled wide at the beautiful bundle of flowers that waited. She brushed her fingertips lightly over the tops before walking to Safaree.

"I love it" she said as she leaned over the side of the table brushing her lips over his. He leaned in giving her a swift kiss. This surprised him; she'd never done that before. Maybe she was really ready to claim him. She walked back to her side sitting across from him, biting off a piece of turkey bacon. He did good, making her morning one of the best ever. The right food, mood, gift it was a dream.

"we gotta be outta here by 11. So chow down." he told her.
"Why?" She wondered. He had something planned, but she had no idea what.
"No more talking. Just eating." he said standing up. He was still in his clothes and needed to get fresh. Winking at her, he put his disposable plate in this stainless steel waist basket, before rushing off to his room. Trifling through his luggage he pulled out a pink tee. What could be better than wearing her favorite color, today of all days. Freshening up in the shower, brushing teeth and hair, he paced himself, making sure they'd leave at the right time. He found her in front of the mirror precisely applying her MAC lipstick. There goes that little habit of hers; he loved watching her repeat this process more than several times a day.
"You ready?" He asked knocking on the open door frame.
"Yup!" She happily answered. He held his hand out, as she walked over to him grasping it firmly. Hand in hand. His nerves danced under his skin where their hands connected. Walking out of the hotel, SB winked at the manager Joe, and he nodded. They spent the afternoon in a whirlwind of effortless fun. Shutting down the bowling alley, and the mall where he bought her another Louie bag, that she transferred over to immediately after the purchase. Nicki was somewhat worn out once evening crept up, forcing the sun to retreat and the moon to prosper. Not wanting her to be exhausted SB decided to wind things down. Everything he needed now was conveniently located around their hotel. He had their temporary driver Chives – the name SB found incredibly hilarious and pissed Nicki off a few times throughout the day laughing hysterically at- drop them off in front of a little ice cream parlor called “Lucy’s” The warm weather mixed with a frozen treat was definitely a win. With his arm locked securely around Nicki’s SB escorted her into the Shoppe, where an invisible wave of random candy like flavor hit them like a bus. To their surprise the place was vacant; the bored workers looked like colorfully dresses statues that belonged out front. Intrigued by the smell Nic let her nose lead her to the counter, where she carefully examined every available flavor. But content with sticking to what she likes, she ordered a double scoop of cookies & crème. SB nonchalantly paid, throwing his arm over her shoulder accompanying her out, starting down the street.
“You didn’t want any?” She asked surprised. He wasn’t usually the one to pass up ice cream or any food at that.
“Nah I’m good.” He shrugged. Today wasn’t really about him, it was entirely about her. Not knowing she’d visited this place before, Safaree walked her to the enchanting park around the block. But with the new atmosphere it seemed like a brand new place. Instead of a sunset, the glowing moon slumbered in the sky accompanied by hundreds of stars, that casted an illuminating radiance around every object as far as the eye could see. The chrome fountain now spewed pinkish yellow tinted water from its spout, while the enormous Oak trees and fallen red leaves slept peacefully under the night sky. The fine grass was moist giving it a sparkling shine, underneath the muted colors of the flower beds. The scarcity of people only added to the fantasy, making story book life seem so real. She tightened her arm around SB’s waist; satisfied when she looked up and he was the one she saw. Walking over to the bridge she’d been on once before, was almost like she’d never been at all; the white roses that enclosed the chilled cobble stone bridge, was now an even brighter pale white underneath the moon light. The river quietly showered over the little waterfall, the water reflected the sky cape. SB sat on the side of the wall, while Nic stood on the other side gazing at the stars.
“Beautiful aren’t they.” She commented. He was watched the light breeze play in her hair.
“They are” He got up and stood by her. Reaching for SB her ice cream cone slipped from her hand and splat on the ground
“Wow, great job” She said sarcastically. Safaree just laughed.
“It’s not funny I wanted that.”
“We’ll go get another, don’t worry about it.” He assured her. A lone pale rose floated down from the canopy landing in between them on the stone. Nic picked it up handing it to SB. But he thought it would be better if she had it. He picked off the thorns and broke of the stem; placing it behind her ear, pushing her hair behind it. She posed modeling her new hairstyle; then burst out laughing at herself while SB joined. She was so adorable, so difficult not to like, so hard not to love. Reaching for him again she wound her arms around his back; hugging him tightly. Responsively he hugged her back, clinging to her body. Refusing to let go they swayed side to side to the sound of the outpouring waterfall. Who needed music when they had everything else? How long they were dancing neither of them knew, but the moon was yawning ready to pack it in. It was getting really late. All SB could think about was “It’s either now or never” So wearing his heart on his sleeves for the umpteenth time; he spoke.
“There’s something I’ve been wanting to ask you for a while now.” He had to hurry up and do it before he lost his nerve. Maintaining eye contact the whole way he got down on one knee; pulling the tiny valor box from his pocket. His stomach was an aching mess, and his head was a battlefield of thoughts and emotions. Nicki’s eyes got big as she began to silently hyperventilate, unknowingly lifting her hand to him; as if encouraging him not to give up.
“Onika…” He started taking a deep breath, opening the box exposing the big 6.1 carrot pink diamond. The color it shone against the moon looked like milky pink. “Will you be mine, forever?” It came out a lot better than he’d thought it would, nothing but confidence in his hidden fearful tone. He slid the ring onto her finger; admiring the sight.
“Oh my god…yes!” She squealed, jumping into his arms. Believing in fairy tales wasn’t always bad. And after years of struggle and hardships she finally had hers. An amazing family, a successful career, all the money she could possibly spend and a fiancée.
“I love you.” He murmured into her ear as she slid back down onto her feet. Tears filled her eyes at his intense unexpected, worship increasing her need for him. The look in his eyes was naked with emotion. "Don't cry," He put his forehead on hers, rubbing her back. She gazed into his eyes before stepping on her tip toes; kissing him. Only breaking contact once “…I love you.” she sighed against his lips. He fisted her hair, as plumes of fire infused his entire body; taking complete control. In that instant she was engrossed in a whirlwind of passion and a thirst that only Safaree could quench. She held onto his shirt, angling her head to the side for deeper contact. SB was excited to get Nicki back to the suite; for their were wonders that awaited. This day was their first moment for life.
